How to use active session lock in Multilogin X

What session lock does

Active session lock prevents the same browser profile from being opened on multiple devices at the same time. This protects your data, fingerprint settings, and sync states from getting messed up.

Session lock

Why session lock is useful

  • Protects data: avoids lost cookies, form data, or unsaved work
  • Prevents syncing issues: keeps profile sessions from clashing between devices
  • Keeps fingerprints consistent: avoids detection from conflicting profile behavior

How session lock works

When a profile is running on Device A, it can’t be opened on Device B at the same time. If you try, you’ll see a padlock icon instead of the launch/stop buttons.

How to unlock or stop an active session

Normal stop

Click the “Stop” button in the profile list. That safely ends the session and unlocks the profile.

Stop button

If a profile stays locked

  1. Hover over the lock icon and click “Unlock” or click “Unlock all” in the top-right of the dashboard
  2. Refresh the page – the padlock will disappear
Unlock

If you don’t see the “Unlock profiles” button

  1. Stop all running profiles
  2. Disconnect the agent
  3. Delete the .lock files in your /%username%/mlx folder
  4. Refresh the dashboard
  5. Reconnect the agent
  6. You should now see the “Unlock profiles” button – click it to unlock

Pro tips

  • Always close profiles using the Multilogin “Stop” button
  • Keep a habit of refreshing the dashboard if things seem stuck

FAQs

Why is my profile still locked after closing?

It might’ve crashed or closed incorrectly. Use the unlock steps above to fix it.

Can I force-open a profile on another device?

Nope – and that’s on purpose. It’s meant to keep your data and identity safe.

What does the padlock icon mean?

It means the session is still running somewhere – or Multilogin thinks it is.
